Tuesday, November 20

Objective: "I can correctly use pronouns in a sentence."

Grammar Review:  Active vs Passive Voice also called Direct vs Indirect Writing.  In business writing, we try to use the stronger active voice.  Active voice means that the subject is doing the action.  We use active voice when we want to convey “good news.”
For example:  Lisa swept the floor.

Passive voice means that the subject is being acted upon.
For example:  The floor was swept by Lisa.

Passive voice is used when the sender wants to focus on what was done instead of who did it. We use passive voice when we express “bad news” to eliminate blame.

http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/active-voice-versus-passive-voice.aspx

Label the following sentences as either passive or active voice:
(active or passive?) I heard it through the grapevine.
(active or passive?) It was heard by me through the grapevine.

"The pen is being held by me."

“Your power will be shut off by the electric company.”
